The Pony Baucher bit has been specially developed for ponies. The Hanging Cheek, also known as a Baucher, is a stable snaffle cheekpiece featuring smaller rings above the main bit rings. The bridle cheekpieces attach to these upper rings, while the reins are attached to the larger rings at the level of the mouthpiece.

Contrary to a common misconception, a Baucher bit does not create leverage or additional poll pressure. When rein contact is applied, the bit lifts slightly in the mouth and the tension on the bridle cheekpieces may actually decrease.

The attachment to the upper ring helps the bit remain relatively still and stable in the mouth. This can be beneficial for ponies that are inconsistent in the contact, have sensitive mouth corners or simply prefer a more stable bit. Ponies that tend to carry their neck high and find it difficult to come forward into the contact may also appreciate the action of a Baucher bit.

The exact action of the bit will always also depend on the type of mouthpiece used.

The double jointed bit has two joints, allowing the mouthpiece to follow the shape of the mouth more closely and giving it a more flexible feel. It acts on the tongue, bars and corners of the mouth. Extra care should be taken with ponies that have a narrow lower jaw, as the joints may press against the bars and potentially cause irritation or small sores. Compared with a single jointed bit, a double jointed mouthpiece applies more pressure to the tongue. A double jointed mouthpiece is considered a classic and versatile option.

Sweet Iron bits are made from steel and are easily recognised by their characteristic blue colour. When exposed to air and moisture, Sweet Iron develops a light layer of surface oxidation with a sweet taste, naturally encouraging the pony to produce more saliva. This can encourage the pony to salivate and chew on the bit, helping to improve acceptance of the bit. As a result of this natural oxidation process, the blue colour of TRUST bits gradually changes to a brown-grey shade.
