Trust dee bit dr. Bristol. Trust D-ring snaffle dr. Bristol made from blue sweet iron. This bit has a center control plate mouthpiece set at a 45 degree angle to follow the contours of the horse's tongue. Consequently, a horse who uses his tongue as a means of pushing against the bit and therefore taking control, will draw back and tuck his chin in, coming back to a better point of control.

All Trust bits are made from blue sweet iron, because it:

  • oxidises easily
  • encourages salivation
  • helps bit acceptance
  • is warm and sweet

All Trust bits are made from blue sweet iron, because it:

  • oxidises easily

  • helps bit acceptance

Sweet iron will rust when it comes into contact with (air) humidity; the surface rust tastes sweet and naturally stimulates the saliva production. This will cause the horse to salivate more which in turn encourages better acceptance of the bit. The rusting process (oxidation) changes the blue colour of the TRUST-bit to a brownish-grey. If a sweet iron bit is not used for a while, an orange-brown rust layer may develop on the mouthpiece. Simply remove this by wiping the bit with a damp cloth.

How to measure your bit

The current bit size is often used to order a new bit. We will explain how to measure this below.

  • Measure the bit between the rings.
  • Bits from the brands that we sell have exactly the size that you measure between the bit rings. Do you have a bit from another brand? Measure this between the rings and if this is for example 12.5, you also order the new bit in that size.

Note that bits with longer shanks such as hackamore combi bits need more space so that they do not damage your horse.
